Hotel Description

The Imperial is situated in the Cotswold town of Stroud, which lies surrounded by rural beauty where 5 rivers and streams and their wooded valleys converge.

From its position in the centre of the town, surrounded by the hills, the Imperial reflects the magic of Stroud, a magic that has fired the imaginations of creative minds for centuries.

Built some 300 years ago, this coaching inn has been restored with a lively touch, enhancing the embrace of heritage and period features with a very smart but informal character to create an ambiance that will make a visit or a stay memorable.

The Imperial in the heart of the Cotswold town of Stroud lies in a valley surrounded by beautiful hills that make it a charming and magical base for exploring the Cotswolds, historic houses and gardens, antique hunting in nearby Tetbury, Cirencester and Bath, or to just relax and wander.

Traditional but very smart, the detailed attention from our traditional English menu, to the best Thai menu in the area, from wine lists to fine wine lists, from our choice of single malts (that include rare Ardbegs and Bruichladdich) to rich real ales; ensures that your visit is memorable. Our 25 bedrooms are furnished to meet all the needs of the modern traveller and more. For special occasions we will be pleased to accommodate your requests

The town has one of the highest concentrations of artists, writers, musicians and craftspeople in Britain, giving it a distinctly bohemian feel. The regency style subscription rooms, purpose-built as an entertainment venue in the 19th century, play host to an array of colourful events and Stroud has its own Fringe Festival and a Visual Arts Festival.

The hilly streets of the town are packed with a diverse array of cafes and an eclectic mix of independent shops. If you can drag yourself away then a short drive or a steep 30 minute walk will lead you to the rugged beauty of Rodborough Common. This hilltop common, owned by the National Trust, is famed for its breathtaking views over the surrounding hills and valleys, its diverse wildlife and archaeological significance.
