Hotel Description

Oaklands House is long established with a relaxed atmosphere, heated swimming pool, licensed bar, free Wi-Fi, air conditioned bedrooms and parking.

From our location on the Isle of Wight it's just a short (uphill) walk to Brading Downs, making Oaklands ideal for both walkers and cyclists

The heated swimming pool (June to September) is open most days from 14:00 until dusk.

The friendly village pub, The Yarbridge Inn, is just across the road. Walk just a few more metres for fishing on the River Yar.

Oaklands was featured in the April 2006 Sunday Mirror article 'The Best of British at Bargain Prices'. Oaklands has again been awarded 5 stars by IW Council for food hygiene standards and has 'Gold' status from Green Island Tourism

A light buffet-style breakfast is included (see below). Minimum booking is for 2 nights. Rare red squirrels come to the garden to feed - so no pets allowed.

Please note that Oaklands cannot accommodate children under 18 years of age.

Green Tourism:
Caring for the environment is important to us. We are very pleased to have been given a Gold award by Green Island Tourism (2007/2008).

Computer facilities:
Should you have forgotten your laptop, one is available for guests’ use. This computer is available free of charge and is in the bar lounge.

Guest privacy:
We respect our guests’ privacy and will only enter guest rooms on request (or if an emergency occurs).

Non-residents:
Only registered guests are allowed in the bedroom area. Friends of hotel guests may be entertained in the bar. They cannot use the swimming pool.

Parking:
Providing good sense is used, our car park can accommodate approximately 10 cars. However, if the car park is full, alternative free off-road parking is available nearby.

Restaurants and Bars

Breakfast:
Enjoy a relaxed start to the day with our continental-style buffet breakfast. We use organic, Freetrade and local Isle of Wight produce wherever possible. Breakfast is served from 09:00 to 10:00. On offer are fruit juices, cereals, yoghurts, teas, infusions, coffees, croissants, bread, toast, preserves and cheeses.

A breakfast tray can be provided on request, for guests requiring breakfast earlier than 09:00. You may, if you wish, have breakfast outside on the terrace or take it to your room.

Lunch and dinner:
The Yarbridge Inn (Isle of Wight CAMRA Pub of the Year 2006, 2007 and 2008) is the closest to us. The Bugle, Wheatsheaf Inn and Brothers fish and chip shop are all in Brading village, within reasonable walking distance. The Royal China Restaurant in Sandown will deliver telephoned orders to Oaklands. Morton Manor serve lunch and teas.

Hotel bar:
As we have a residential license, the bar lounge and terrace are open during the day (when we are on the premises) and most evenings until 23:30.

• Deposit: A fixed amount of GBP 60 per room will be charged on the day of booking and is non-refundable.
• Internet: Wireless internet is available in public areas and is free of charge.
• Pets: Pets are not allowed.
• Parking: Free public parking is possible on site.
• Extra Charges: VAT is included. Service charge is included. City/tourist tax is not applicable.
• Children and extra beds: Children older than 18 years are welcome. There is no capacity for extra beds/cots in the room.
• Cancellations: If cancelled up to 4 days before date of arrival, a fixed amount of GBP 60.00 will be charged. If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged.

Important Information

We advise taking travel insurance to cover late cancellations or no-shows.

For same-day reservations, check-in is by prior arrangement only.

In order to maintain a peaceful and tranquil environment, we will not accept bookings from hen or stag-type parties. If you are reserving more than 3 rooms, please provide further information about the nature of your group, as they will not be accepted without prior discussion with hotel. We reserve the right of refusal upon check-in.

Guests with mobility problems should note that there are 3 steps at the front door, 3 steps to the terrace and approximately 9 steps down to the pool area.

We do not charge VAT.

The pool slide is not available for guest use.

Directions

By Car (from Ryde):
- Yarbridge is on the A3055, after Brading (20 mph limit) and before Sandown Town.
- At Yarbridge crossroads, turn right towards Newport.
- Oaklands is at the first entrance on the right.

Parking:
Our car park is free of charge.

By Public Transport:
Bus: Bus stops approximately 50 metres from Oaklands.
From Ryde: take bus numbers 2 and 3, ask for Yarbridge.
From West Cowes: catch the bus from the Red Jet Terminal to Newport Bus station. Then take the number 10 direct to Yarbridge. You can book a through ticket from W.Cowes.

By Train:
Brading Station is a 12-15 minute walk from Oaklands:
- Leave the station and walk up the footpath opposite the telephone box.
- Continue through to Station Gardens.
- Continue to the main road.
- Turn left.
- At Yarbridge, turn right.
- The entrance is on the right.

Sandown Station, which has a taxi rank, is approximately 5 minutes away by car.

By Cycle:
Cycles can be taken on the catamaran, car ferry and island train (all free of charge). Safe cycle storage can be arranged - please request this when making your reservation. Cycles can also be hired locally.
